Sometimes you wear the dress and sometimes the dress wears you. And sometimes, you overpay by $1400 to have the distinct honor of looking ridiculous.
Such is the occasional fashion life of Michelle Obama, who last week, showed up at a White House function in a Boy. by Band of Outsiders blue toile dress looking like she’d lost half of it in Biden’s over-weekend squirt gun fight.
Now, ombre is all awesome and everything, but there’s a big difference between a flattering, gradual color shift, which, on hourglass figures can flatter by accentuating the a-line on a dress like this, and looking like the dog threw up on your hem and you had to wash it out in a pool that had been winterized in 1975. This is distressing. And what’s more distressing is that Boy., a controversial label as it is, priced this dress between $800 and $1600. I say “between” because it is neither the actual ready-to-wear version of dress for sale at Barneys is the shorter version seen on Michelle Williams in the Boy. ads, paired with a chic shrunken leather jacket, priced at around $800. The other option available is a longer trench made in the same style, selling at Barneys for $1600.
So, when I say somewhere between those two numbers, I’m being serious. But someone isn’t.
