The Obama re-election machine is clamoring for Mitt Romney to release his tax returns. Their aim is to show that Romney has hidden some of his assets offshore. What they don’t seem to understand is that a tax return would only show domestic assets (Obama campaign, domestic means within the United States FYI). Why oh why would anyone trying to float his assets in an offshore account list them on his return to the IRS? That would be the same thing as holding up a sign saying “I’M BREAKING THE LAW!” And to boot, this call for transparency is coming from the most disappointing administration ever on that very issue.
I guess this should come as no surprise as the President has continually surrounded himself with people who can’t seem to pay their taxes (or more likely the try to weasel their way out of them). People like Tom Daschle, Timothy Geithner, and Nancy Killefner show that the administration has a tenuous grasp on this whole paying taxes thing so I guess Obama’s campaign calling for Romney’s returns to show something that wouldn’t be there anyway doesn’t shock me an ounce. But I think it does call for one of these:
