Aside from his regular hobbies of xenophobia, angry outbursts and comb-over design, Tom Tancredo is apparently in the business of making wagers with stand up comics in Internet videos on the success of legalization measures where they involve marijuana.
Quite unexpectedly, Tancredo favors legalization, because it funds drug cartels in Mexico and because his state, Colorado, and others spend tens of millions of dollars per year on a prohibition effort that targets a drug that is generally recognized to be less dangerous than alcohol. Plus, Colorado stands to make somewhere around $60 million in state sanctioned marijuana sales, and Tancredo is probably convinced that if pot is legalized here, it means less Mexicans, or at least more money to enforce immigration laws, which is his primary concern anyway.
Whatever the rationale, however, Tancredo lost his bet that Colorado’s measure 64 would never pass, and now he has to make good on his promise to toke up with Adam Hartle.
“True or false, when Amendment 64 passes and marijuana is legal, the next time I’m out in Colorado, we’re going to smoke a joint together?” Hartle asks.
“Deal,” Tancredo answers without missing a beat.
The video closes with text across the screen that reads: “Please help us get Congressman Tancredo rocky mountain high!”
On Wednesday, Tancredo said he would make good on his promise.
Maybe it’ll chill him out. And maybe he’ll even do it on television so he can officially announce his 2016 Presidential campaign in style, with VP candidate Snoop Dogg.
