I didn’t watch the Inauguration when it was on. I had missed Downton Abbey and frankly, that was way more important than watching some guy march around chewing gum for a couple of hours. So, I also missed the Great Beyonce Lip Sync, which apparently shattered everyone’s faith in the system right to the bone. Possibly because, when it came down to it, the Beyonce National Anthem wasn’t all that great, and people were willing to forgive some mis-steps given that she was singing in 20 degree weather and she pretty much relies on auto-tune anyway.
And then it turned out that was pre-recorded, the best she could do, and was also probably auto-tuned.
But not to fear, Beyonce is very sorry. She admitted today that she pre-recorded her performance because, you know, sometimes, when you’re in the presence of Barack Obama, it’s just impossible to contain all that emotion.
Before answering questions at a press conference Thursday in New Orleans, the singer asked those at the conference to stand before she belted “The Star Spangled Banner,” and after said with a laugh: “Any questions?”
The 31-year-old singer said she’s a “perfectionist” and wanted her performance for President Barack Obama to be a memorable one. She called the day “emotional.”
She will be singing for the Superbowl Halftime show, thankfully, so you can be sure you will have live entertainment for that bathroom break and guacamole refill.
